I’m the founder, bandleader, arranger and producer of Third Reprise, a funk/fusion/pop band based in NYC.
In July 2023, I called up a few of my favorite musicians, my favorite engineer, and my favorite director to shoot an incredibly low-budget, Scary Pockets-inspired session in my high school friend’s storefront-turned-music studio. Six hours, one flat tire, and nine Thai orders later, we had recorded a neo-soul arrangement of “If I Loved You” and a “Disney/Whitney” Medley.
A year and a half later, our adventurous, opened-up covers of showtunes have received over 14 million views and 3 million streams, and led to collaborations with some of the brightest talent and most iconic brands in the industry. Here are some highlights from our journey so far:
Our first season of videos featured Andrew Barth Feldman (No Hard Feelings, Dear Evan Hansen), Helen Shen (Maybe Happy Ending), Leah Rich (Producer Mondays), and Amanda Barise (American Idol), and culminated in our cover of “Defying Gravity”, which went viral on every platform and generated thousands of dance videos.
Our first live performance was in March 2024 for a sold out Irving Plaza, opening for our heroes Dirty Loops. Since then, we’ve toured the Northeast, headlining from Times Square to Wolf Trap, VA.
We were featured in a People Magazine exclusive for our “Somewhere That’s Green” collaboration with Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) and Andrew Barth Feldman, sponsored by the long-running, award-winning Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors.
We collaborated with The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, Concord Theatricals, and Alita Moses (internationally renowned vocalist, backup vocalist with Jacob Collier) to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of South Pacific with our R&B cover of “Some Enchanted Evening” (I think this one’s my favorite so far).
We collaborated with Audio-Technica to host a free community night at the Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo. We played a full set for an audience of our friends and fans, and everyone in the audience left with a pair of headphones. The whole thing was filmed and will be released this spring.
Our cover of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” with Henry Platt was selected as the top track for Spotify’s popular “Nu-Funk” playlist and sat there for the first 2 months after its release.
There’s lots more, and you can check us out at our website, Instagram, Spotify, or Apple Music to see more of what we’re up to! The big thing coming up is the release of our first album later this year, so stay tuned!
